The Core Banking Modernisation (CBM) programme was established to evaluate the Bank’s core banking systems and processes. These ‘core’ legacy systems are old, costly, fragmented and complex. As a result, it inhibits Bank in both its daily operation and ability to grow at a faster rate in the longer term.
The Core Banking Modernisation programme will deliver technology and process changes to support the Bank’s sales and service goals. This will deliver great solutions to its customers in a timely and cost effective manner.
Core Banking Modernisation will leverage our existing customer-centric platforms, including CommSee and CIF (Customer Information Facility), building on CommSee’s whole of customer view.
It is a $585 million, 4 years program. SAP Banking will replace the Deposit and lending product systems.
CharterMason’s Role
Charter Mason is engaged through SAP to build and deploy the work around SAP PI. Currently the work is undergoing for CIF (Customer Information Facility). This involved architecting, designing, building and deploying the SAP PI work on different environments. Charter Mason is also responsible for configuration and tuning of SAP PI systems.
This piece of work integrates CIF (mainframe system), IFW (Enterprise Services) and SAP Banking.

The objective of the BST Project is to consolidate the legacy project and finance processes and systems of Connell Wagner into an effective and efficient merged solution. The solution will include business applications, data, infrastructure, processes and people. The project is to consider the legacy solutions within Connell Wagner and to implement the agreed ‘To Be’ environments in accordance with the agreed business goals and project governance.
The objective is to implement a fully functioning consolidated ERP system for Connell Wagner. This is to be accomplished by merging the existing PS, Sun and various Lotus Notes solutions into a new enterprise solution. BST Enterprise 8.3 has been chosen as the application. There is a high probability that establishing the new solution will introduce new processes to Connell Wagner.
The project is expected to deliver the following outcomes:
- The optimisation of financial systems;
- The optimisation of financial processes;
- The optimisation of project management systems;
- The optimisation of project management processes;
- The introduction of ‘one Connell Wagner’ set of processes;

CharterMason was engaged to enhance CSR’s Microsoft applications development and support operations, and improve their process maturity. Of particular concern was the ability to effectively support and maintain in excess of 80 varied applications in addition to a large B2B capability and dozens of websites.
CharterMason is responsible for the leadership and development of this team, and for the establishment of a related “Managed Environment” ensuring ITIL compliant configuration managed control of all documentation, code and environments. This includes the establishment of controlled, standardised development and testing environments and associated processes and procedures. A further ongoing responsibility is the development of a comprehensive enterprise architecture standard and approach, together with a roadmap for migrating all of CSR’s applications into this simplified, more capable environment.

Enable Fonterra Australia to accept full EDI purchase order processing and fulfilment using advanced shipping notice technology (ASN) with Coles. Also to define, design and implement full GS1 compliant logistic labelling of all outgoing Coles orders. Project was delivered successfully to the extreme satisfaction of all Fonterra and Coles stakeholders. Coles management made mention it had been their smoothest B2B implementation ever. The project has enabled Fonterra to now implement B2B with other major customers as required – ie turn key solution.

RailCorp, as Sydney’s metropolitan railway network, is involved in the setup and planning for the World Youth Day held between 14th & 20th July 2008. This is a six day celebration of universal solidarity amongst youth in the Catholic Church. The event attracts pilgrims from around the world with many sponsored by their local parishes. Up to 250,000 registered pilgrims may take part of which 175,000 – 200,000 could come from outside Sydney and, well over 100,000 from outside Australia, it is expected that 80% will travel by rail within the Sydney region.
The RailCorp program is designed to ensure that all its operations are at maximum capability for this, Australia’s largest people event.
The tasks carried out by the Project Office are the setting up, scheduling and monitoring of all the business units involved in providing transport for the event, from timetabling to track maintenance, security and station operations etc.
